Power Steering doesn't work

My 06 HHR power steering keeps not working. Can't drive more than 1/4 mile and power steering stops working. Shut engine off restart and works about another 1/4' mile. When power steering goes out a light a message power steering comes on dash. What's wrong ?? Thanks for any help.

A textbook case of EPS motor failure.

Power Steering Doesn't work.

Called GMC.com customer service today. Send me to local dealer. On my 06 HHR they will install new power steering motor at no charge. Sure surprised me.

Good deal. GM did send out notices in the mail to owners advising of the extended warranty on the steering motors, but no doubt some people were missed.

If it hasn't already been done, you may ask them to check into the Ignition Recall that was announced a while back to ensure it has been done.

An excellent point whopper, the "New GM" is trying to do a better job of taking care of us than the "Old GM" did in the pre-Bankruptcy days.

Your GM dealer can run your VIN and tell you which recalls are outstanding for your HHR!

Nice to hear GM actually fixed this issue for you.

How difficult was your HHR to steer without the EPS motor ??
