Question Fuel and oil system to be maintained ?

Hi everybody,

Today I made my first oil change and brake pads by myself, it really worth it in my economy , I also fixed the problem that I had when I take my HHR to a full throttle body cleaning , I just cleaned the sensor that is before the full throttle body, BUT yes a but, It seems that I can not get anymore the 23 mpg that I used to get , now even after an oil, spark plugs and filters change I just can get 18, but most of the time I have 17 mpg,
My question is, Can you tell me what else I must to replace to get the most mpg? of course apart of oil, sparks plugs, oil and air filters?
I use to buy the best replacements for my HHR, I continue using synthetic oil 5W/30, Is this correct? it sounds and feels excellent with this oil (Royal purple),

I have to mention that when I stop the car, It smells strange, like gasoline bad consumed or burned.

Can you give me an advice about this?

What else I can check or replace to get more mpg?

Thanks for your help

MPG is directly related to the weight of your right foot. Are there any error codes stored?

Sounds like your running rich. What was all done to the throttle body? Something might have gotten damaged during the cleaning. Or could be an O2 sensor going bad.

If you cleaned the maf sensor on the intake tube, that could be the problem, they are very sensitive.

Yes, I cleaned the sensor but I had to, after taking the HHR to a throttle body cleaning I was having high rpm, and I was having a code about high rpm,( It was working good, I just thought that It was the cause of poor mgp)
"the specialist" tried to change the body with high cost $$, so, I started reviewing all possible causes, so I started to clean and adjust all things that they could have move, so I saw the sensor before the throttle body and I cleaned with a solution based in alcohol for that kind of pieces, and after ....'Voila' ..normal RPMs.
And the weight of my foot is not heavy, That why I ask what else should I replace or clean for having better mpgs.
What Ive never checked are the coils of the sparks plugs.
How Could I check these parts?
