Fuel pressure regulator replacement

Fuel pressure regulator replacement
I am having a problem with my fuel pump. When the engine is off the fuel pressure quickly drops down to 0 and when I try to start it back up I need to turn key to acc to get the fuel pump to prime the system. From what I have read online it looks like the problem is the fuel pressure regulator. Is there any where I can buy one online and what exact part in the fuel pump is it? And is it even possible to replace. Thank you in advance for the help.

Welcome to the site
the regulator is part of an fuel pump assembly.
In the diagram it is number 2. I have never tried to find just the regulator I just replaced the assembly.
Fuel rail pressure can be lost back to the fuel tank by a bad fuel pressure regulator but there is a check valve in the pump that can fail also giving you the same fuel rail pressure loss.
Other places rail psi can be lost is leaking injectors or fuel line leaks. If the pressure falls quickly than I would not suspect injectors.

Thanks for the info. I thought that that was the regulator but wasn't sure. When you say you replaced the assembly do you mean you replaced the whole fuel pump or is there a part I can buy to replace a portion of the fuel pump to fix it? I know the problem lies in the fuel pump because when another pump was put in it's place it held pressure just fine.

I have always replaced the whole thing. I have not looked into buying just a pump or just a regulator.
You stated that after you had the pump replaced it would not hold rail pressure?
If someone just put a pump in the assembly maybe the hoses in the pump assembly were not hooked up correctly. I have had that happen on other pumps I have done in the past.
You my not need any parts to correct your problem.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Once the replacement was put in place it worked like normal, everything was fine. I am trying to refurbish the pump since everything works but the regulator to try and recoup some of the cost of the new pump.
