I spent a few hours draining the radiator and the oil again today for a second time. plus put in a new thermostat. The oil looked great no trace of water! The sealer has worked thus far.

I drained the radiator and then flushed it out with the water hose for a while. I got the largest part of the oil out. I will always have some oil residue.

So far so good. It has been showing a code the last few weeks and it is still coming back on. P0171. MAF sensor or fuel pump. I will try to clean the MAF sensor. It says it's running lean.

Please use the SEARCH box for P0171. Lean does not necessarily mean lean. What it really means is vacuum leak usually. Most likely a leak between the MAF and the #1 O2 sensor.

^ This.

If your intake is loose, it could cause this code. The MAF Sensor meters the air entering the engine, and this code indicates a mismatch. Cleaning the MAF is not a bad idea, but really make sure there are no leaks after it. Otherwise, you could be chasing this for a while.

Just an update, Engine still going strong. I did schedule it to have the head machined and a new gasket installed however. Just to be safe. Timing is better for me now financially. They are installing new water pump and timing chain/ tensioner at the same time.

Wife came home tonight saying that the radiator light was on. I checked the fluid and it has oil in it. Checked the oil and it has water. I drained the oil and let it drip out good. Then I drained the anti freeze, It was total muck. I used the Bars head gasket sealer. and followed the directions. It seems to be working but I just don't trust a sealer. Seems like I should just replace the gasket. Has anyone done this before? I could take it to a shop but cash is tight.

Also, I need to really flush the cooling system, more than just the drain and fill I did tonight, not a good thing to do in the cold spell we are having right now but I think it will take some work to get the oil out of the system.

I'm not driving it right now till I get it straightened out. It still runs beautiful. No noise and hopefully we got lucky.
Where is the drain on the radiator?
