broken engine dip stick
Hello,
The yellow plastic handle has broken off of my dip stick when I attempted to check the oil level. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you retrieve the metal stick?
Thanks,
Jeff

I never have. A small retriever magnet should work. Or, a piece of coat hanger and hold a magnet on it. Or a coat hanger with some fast setting glue on the end. Worst case you can get the tube out of the block, might have to destroy it and get a new one.

Here is the oil dip stick part number
http://m.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-GENUINE-GM-OEM-ENGINE-OIL-DIPSTICK-24574970-/361473485886?nav=SEARCH
And the tube number eludes me, but I found this at ZZP
Saab Oil Dip Stick And Tube Assembly
Now depending on where your dipstick broke off you should've able to unbolt the tube bracket bolt and gently wiggle the tube up and out of the grommet seal down where it goes into the engine block!
