Coolant temperature
#12
I would like to see a more sensitive, functional analog temperature gauge in my HHR, so that I don't have to constantly scroll through the DIC readout to check engine temp. My gauge just sits on the fourth mark (right below half-way) and never moves. I have never seen a picture of an HHR's instrument cluster where the needle on the temp gauge is anywhere but on the fourth mark. (if it's up to operating temperature, of course)

What he said. I set the DIC to the temp setting when I'm concerned about overheating especially when going up mountain passes w/ passengers and cargo. Otherwise it's set to MPG most of the time

Imagine my surprise when I found out that "normal" operating temp is around 196F, but the tstat is 180F! Go figure. But if you look at it, the tstat is on the bottom side of the radiator, not the top like older cars; so the tstat is to keep the temp "high" enough, not "low" enough. Did I make sense or logic?

My HHR temp needle points between 2 lines, this one and that one!! |^|
Now my 2009 silverado has a 185 and the temp runs 210 all the time when warmed up.
The 5.3 on my Bucket has not completely warmed up yet. After 20 minutes the bottom of the radiator was still cool 100 degrees when read with a thermal gun with 185 at the thermostat elbow.
