OOPS,
for 2009 RPO LE8 is 2.2L VVT FlexFuel, LE9 is 2.4L VVT FlexFuel.

for 2008 RPO L61 is 2.2L, LE5 is 2.4L VVT (gas only).

LE5/LE8 head gasket may be interchangeable, do a part search to be sure.

I should have looked, sorry.

Most likely interchangeable parts between LE5(gas) and LE8 (flex). I believe the flex fuel is a gimmick..... I watched a documentary on Netflix (the man in that documentary actually posted on this forum a while back) who was able to take a "gas only" cobalt 2.2 and make it run smoothly on Methanol and ethanol. All had to do with some sort of computer lockout from GM. Interesting stuff. Probably off topic but hey, I am a tad bored in my office right now doing my typical daily lurking.

But you misread my wall o' words.

LE5 = 2.4L LE8 = 2.2L
LE9 = 2.4L L61 = 2.2L

Difference between FlexFuel 2.2L and gas 2.2L is VVT. So the holes for the valves.

Well,

checked the bore today, Definitely a 2.2 LE8,, VVT, Flex Fuel..

head gasket stamped LE5.

A close friend of mine drove this HHR as a company car until re retired a few months ago. The motor & trans have never been touched.

Next up, remove the water pump, look for cracks.....

It's the VVT that is different! And so the difference in head gaskets! LE5 and LE8 use the same head gasket.
It must be either a different area for that leak, or cracked head or block

Oldblue,,

Re VVT, what years Didn't have the VVT ???

Latest... I took a few minutes and was going to Wipe the engine bay down and pull the water pump...

I was looking at the Timing chain and noticed that the G.M. dealer had broken one of the guides. hen it hit me that there was oil in the timing chain valley But No Milk Shake. The Cylinder Hear was packed with The oil / water mix..

I'm at the option that the leak isn't the water pump

Any thoughts ??
