So, I'm the type of guy that will stop to inspect an HHR in the same trim level and color as my own. I inspect it for its condition, down to paint chips and scratched wheels.... I treat it like I'm judging a concours d'elegance.
That being said, I'm not THAT insane. I know the HHR isn't a highly sought after collectible.
I came across a 2006 Daytona Blue Metallic HHR in 1LT trim. 2.4 auto. (Mine is a 2.4 5 speed) Save for the slushbox, essentially my car. I was impressed with the lack of sandpapering on the rear doors, since it (like mine) lacks the running boards. Overall the car was impressive. Sport wheels, sunroof, clean interior... only one minor blemish on the lower rear bumper. I went to the window sticker, expecting the mileage to be anywhere from 100,000 to 130,000 (seems to be average.) I was not surprised to see that the car had just over 103,000 on it.
What did surprise me, is that they were asking $13,000 for it! Mine has just over 90,000 on it, the exterior and interior are IMMACULATE and it only blue books for about $7,000 private party sale!
I love HHR's and will not be selling my apparently somewhat rare 06 LT 2.4 5 speed combo. But if I did... I'd have to be on some kind of psychotropic ****tail to ask for $12,000
Some car dealers are not right in the head....

I don't see why you're so surprised. Dealers can ask whatever they want. It doesn't mean it'll sell for that price. Dealers are in business to make a profit. Some make more and some less. If they're reputable and in business for the long-haul there will generally be a correlation between a dealer's retail pricing and those firms that serve as authorities for retail pricing. At least that's my experience.

My disbelief is rooted in the fact that, anyone with an ounce of internet capability, (and sanity) knows that an 8 to 10 year old model of everything except HIGH tier luxury cars wouldn't sell for that price. (Hello KBB.)
I was making a statement that referenced both the resale values of an HHR and the audacity that some car dealers have. If the car had 30,000 miles on it, and NO wear or tear, I could see asking 11,000 and expecting to get maybe 9,000...
HHR's are great cars, but one that old, with that many miles on it selling for the same price as a used 2001 Mercedes S-Class? I really hope no one gets suckered into that car...

Some things just make you shake your head, others make you lose faith in humanity... To me, this is a bit of both.
