$2.57 for regular at Sam's Club is the lowest I've paid here in Southern California so far. My sister in Houston, Tx. sent me a text this morning saying that she paid $2.17 there.

[QUOTE=hhr06NJ;766917Footnote: I am driving an HHR because 5 years ago, i was TOO SCARED to buy a Lincoln Towncar amidst talk of GASOLINE GOING TO $12-15 PER GAL!

What do YOU think?[/QUOTE]

I don't think it went to $12-15 per gal!!!

Oh, and by the way.....your friend is not quite correct.....gas prices, to a certain extent ARE set by supply and demand. For example, gas prices are different across any given city. Sometimes determined by what the retailer needs to net as a profit after all expenses. Sometimes determined by his weekly volume, sometimes on his current volume before a delivery. Sometimes depending on exact delivery location, either in the city or across the street and just out side the city (taxes). I know a station that sells gasoline at cost, including taxes, etc., because it makes its profits on the name brand fast foods and grocery chain business. It's generally 3-5 cents cheaper than a competitor 1 block away.

But I do know what your friend was trying to say.

averaging around 2.19 in my area of Michigan. Lowest I've seen today was 2.07, but it was from a fairly marginal gas station.
