How to tell if I have ABS...wheel bearing
#25
I went over an abrupt hill the other day and on descent the sound went away, so I tried to get up to speed and turn sharply both ways to get weight off of each side. When I turned left sharply, the sound got worse however, when I turned sharply right the sound nearly went away.
Am I thinking correctly to say right front wheel bearing that can only be detected with weight on it?

As a response to the USA part built by Americans comment, I realize all cars are global products with many different suppliers sourcing parts from all over the world. In the case of the hub assemblies, the OEM HHR hub assemblies are made in Sandusky, Ohio by KBI(formerly Delphi)by Americans with USA sourced parts. These are the hubs the car came with from the factory, the ones you buy at the dealer and the ones that the major hub manufacturers like Timken source and then re-package in thier box. I am in the bearings business and have a lot of exposure to the Chinese/off shore hubs and they are definitely made to a price point. You may get lucky with them sometimes but usually they have half the life of an OEM level hub and also can have noise or vibration issues. I have no problem recommending an imported part or brand if the quality is there, there are many good Japanese bearing manufacturers but since a hub assembly is a complicated and costly part to tool up they unfortunately do not make units for the HHR. Just know that the OEM hubs have been tested and designed with a lot of research, the Chinese knock offs are just copies, no testing, very little defect control, they leave it to the customer to find problems and then have a hard time fixing them because they didn't develop the part from scratch, they just copied a sample they acquired.

If you want the Timken hubs from a reliable source, try Rock Auto (rockauto.com) $108 + shipping. Here's a Rock discount code of 5% (70481111095699, good til Nov 27th), it'll save enough to pay about half the shipping. They ship fast and have an easy return policy. I buy very few parts from local sources anymore.
I am going through the exact same thing with my 2006 2LT
I am ordering from Rock Auto...
any word on a NEW/Un-expired discount code?
