Interesting side effect

I purchased my 2006 HHR last month and have been slowly bringing it out of it's neglected state. I replaced the mismatched tires, installed new front brake pads rotors and wheel hubs. At this point I was getting 24 mpg. I then noticed the t/c light coming on and finally got the cel for replacing the oil control solenoid. I went ahead and did this and my front struts at the same time and the tank after this I got 29 mpg and the resulting engine feel was much stronger.

Has anyone else noticed an increase or better a return to a higher mpg after changing the oil control solenoid, intake side. My HHR has 158,000 miles on it currently.

By the way the ease of changing all of these parts and the forums great instructions made the difference in purchasing this over the PT cruiser.

Welcome.

It makes sense, if you ate talking about the cam solenoid. Those control the Variable Valve Timing on the 2.4L and post 2008 2.2L engine. It is their job to give better MPG.

That's the part I was talking about. Might be something to change if you see your mileage start dropping.
