Site Participation Down?

I think I've noticed the participation on here drop. Less new threads and less responses. Just curious if there are any stats or anyone else think so? It would make sense as more cars meet the reaper and cars past their prime move from enthusiasts to 2nd or 3rd owners just wanting a cheap used car.

I'm seeing it too. And I think some of it may be attributed to us being frustrated with the New Owners asking questions to which the answers are a-plenty, but not without first searching. And it's irritating us as we've been here through it, and know about it and lots of other info just a search away.

The numbers and demographic curves don't back up the appearance of a decline, but activity here does follow a fairly predictable pattern. We're in a down cycle right now, as is usually the case come early Fall.
We're still growing at a steady rate, and the turnover of departures vs. new memberships is balancing out.
The fleet is aging, and some HHR's are getting onto their third or fourth owners, but there will always be a need for tech info and a knowledge base for new owners to tap into.

It's a combination of things. There are no new HHRs. Older HHRs are being retired. Many have gotten the information they needed. Many on this site are very grumpy with new posters so they don't stay around long.

No problem, I keep a constant watch on membership and demographic curves.
The site is healthy and growing, and those of us working behind the scenes mean to keep it that way.
Stay tuned for another new contest coming next month, the HHR of The Year coming in December, and even more good things in 2015 as we move into out tenth year.

Membership may be steady, but what I have noticed lately is a lot of 1 time posting new members.
I don't think it's a case of "we scared them off" or anything like that. What I've noticed is a new member posting a question and then never returning to follow up on their thread or post.
Every time I see a 1 time poster like this, I'll always go back and check their last log in time. Based on the time check, most don't ever come back after that 1st time.
Don't really have an answer for this.

There have always been "1 Post Wonders", and some are folks who may be shy, new to forum culture, or on fishing expeditions.
I try to treat every member equally, be it their first post or ten thousandth.
Some folks do get scared off, but I think that they are in a small minority.

I am a new member that actually looks and reads through stuff. It seems you guys have a good forum. The older a model line gets, the more really crazy builds you see. It is alot easier to to chop the firewall or floor out of a 3 or 4 thousand dollar car than a 10 or 12 thousand one.

We're glad to have you here!
Check out Ben's thread for an example of a total transformation based on an HHR.

And that's the tip of the iceberg.
