Smile Sudden increase in MPG

Strange thing happened, Friday went to Brown County to camp for the weekend getting around 27 MPG and on the return trip I got almost 33. Since then driving St. Louis traffic I've been getting 31.5 MPG. I went over 30K miles is the only thing different.

Did you fill up with non-ethanol gas outside the city? That'd be good for a couple MPGs. Downhill, downwind and a lighter load would give you a bit also.

Even slight hills can make a difference. I get better gas mileage heading south than on the way home...all I can figure is it must be a slight slope...

They finally used up all the old gas from the Bush administration that was being watered down to increase oil company profits. Now you're using honest gas.

A few months late to be true, but still funny.........

The answer to the question is very clear...... You've benefited from the therapeutic value of camping and are driving less aggressively.....

Is "honest gas" supposed to be 10 to 20% ethanol??? giving you 10% LESS GAS MILES PER GALLON????? That sure doesn't sound like "honest gas" to me!!!!

I make this trip a couple times a year and always got 27 - 28 before, my trips in and out of St. Louis is 5 days a week and usually get around 26. I stay away from ethanol from bad experiences in the 80's.

Are you hinting that Obama is the reason for gas with ethanol? I'm fairly certain that's been in my gasoline here in Michigan since I've had my drivers license at least...

I just got back from FL and I noticed that with cruise set when going up and down hills it would sometimes get back to a lower MPG after a hill... It really didn't make much sense, but I did find that if I gave a slight gas increase and let it ease back into the cruise that it would usually end up higher. Also, after "drafting" and get a few better MPG, then hitting hills, then flat again it was significantly lower MPG w/o me messing with it... I guess we're only talking 4-5MPG difference, but IF that happened a few times and it stayed lower for a decent stretch then you end up with a noticeable difference.
