Using a 195 thermostat
Hi
From what I have been reading the stock thermostat is a 180*F
Has anyone installed a 195*?
Why should the HHR run a colder thermostat compared to all late model cars that use 195*?
Thanks

Because it is designed to run most efficiently at about 190F. A 195F T-stat would let it run averaging 200F or more.
The computer is programmed for a 180F and you will most likely get a CEL. Change it at your own peril.

My old mini van was designed for a 180 therm. The parts guy told me it was a 195. I couldn't remember at the time so I took it. After putting it in, I started it up and let it idle. All seemed okay. Next time I started it, I went to work and it overheated. The radiator wouldn't let it get to open before the block got way too hot. Warped the head. Expensive mistake. That's why I still remember it's a 180, 25 years later.
