What does this mean?

Got a call from the wife, during my morning commute (NEVER a good sign) she says a icon popped up, on her HHR CID, it looks like a picture of a car with a lock? Can anyone enlighten me?

It's the theft deterent or security light. Whichever you want to call it. All the info on it is in your owners manual, including a picture of that little icon.

Not sure what you mean by a CID. The HHR has a DIC: Driver Information Center. That security icon would appear on the bottom info line of the instrument panel. Not in the DIC.

As to why it came on. Hard to say. Could be as simple as she somehow bumped a remote button and triggered it.

BQS4, was she driving when this happened, or parked and motor off?

She was driving to work. Not far from the house. She took our daughter out driving last night, to practice for getting her (our daughter) to get her driver's liscense. Daughter may have activated the alarm system, we have never used it before.

Alarm system cannot be activated on these unless vehicle is in Park (or vehicle off in gear for Manual) as far as I know.

Uh. You do realize that when you lock the car with the fob, it arms the security system.
No offense, but you really should read the owners manual to get familiar with the different systems in your car.
