The definition of "fretting corrosion" is:

Fretting corrosion is a form of accelerated atmospheric
oxidation which occurs at the interface of contacting
materials undergoing slight, cyclic relative motion.
In electric contacts involving non-noble metals,
fretting action can cause rapid increases in contact resistance,
proceeding to virtual open circuits in a matter
of minutes in the worst cases.

In other words, the connector contacts moved very slightly from vibration, causing corrosion, which causes high-resistance.

When I was designing military electronics we always used gold-plated contacts (the "noble" metal) to avoid this problem (among other issues that gold contacts fixed).

Interesting that only one year seems to have this problem (so far). Maybe a different design/vendor for that year.

Yeah! I slid by my Chebby dealer yesterday they checked my vin and said no reason to concern myself with this recall for my '07.

It was -12 F so very icy and cooolld , but the service writer got me a hot chocolate and let me hang out for 45 minutes enough for the car to shed most of the ice built up in the wheel wells !

Got mine today. I think they are trying to sell new cars.

I also have an 2009. I received a letter from G.M. To make an appointment with dealer to have a replacement of in-line jumper wiring harness connector with fretting corrosion at the terminal contacts. Dealer replaced unsealed connector with a sealed connector. Took about 1 hour. So far so good, no more air bag lite.

Bummer. Have '09 too. This makes the 5th one? I will have to call dealer to put my name on the service list.

I'm assuming this pertains to the right kickboard panel wire issue? I've pulled that wire and lubed it and whenever it rains the warning light comes on for a while until the humidity in the car drops and then goes off. It rains seldom where I live. So, it's definitely moisture/humidity related. I still have to get the ignition recall done. Do they only cut you one key? Wjat about key fobs?

2 keys are included in the kit. No new fobs because they aren't part of the recall or the problem.

(somewhere on this site I posted a picture of the recall kit and it's contents. I'll see if I can find it. )
