Admins of GM forums are being issued Valium just as a precaution.
Seriously folks, keep your heads, we have to be patient while revised parts are tooled up and tested, letters are sent out, and the parts are shipped to dealerships.

I am the second owner of an `06 HHR. How can I know that GM will be able to I.D. me as an owner in a timely manner? At my current address? Is there a way for me to contact GM about my HHR ownership?

I just called G.M Customer service after watching NBC and on TV they said GM will offer a loaner car to owners until the parts come in April. I called the dealer and it is TRUE, I pick up my loaner tomorrow and will have it till the recall is fixed!!!

GM IS authorizing the dealership to provide a FREE LOANER vehicle to use until the dealership has a replacement switch available.
If you must keep driving your vehicle, remove all unnecessary items from the key ring (and avoid bumpy roads). If your ignition switch does fall out of "run" while you're driving, don't panic. Shift into neutral, pull off the road if you can, and restart the engine.
Note: There is a different "binding ignition switch" problem for some model years after 2007. I bought my 2010 HHR-SS brand new. Two years later, in May 2012, I received a "Customer Satisfaction" notice in the mail from GM regarding the stuck or binding ignition switch problem. My ignition switch never bound up but why take the chance---so I had the dealership replace the ignition switch free of charge in June 2012. Although it may not have been an official NTSB-mandated recall, the invoice related to the work done said: "RECALL V2573 Install New Ignition Lock Cylinder per Campaign 12045." I don't know if the 2008, 2009 and 2011 HHR, or the 2008-2011 Cobalt, Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac G5 and Pontiac Solstice, were also included in this "voluntary" recall, so you should check with your dealership ASAP. If your vehicle is covered by this campaign, you have until May 31, 2014 to get your ignition switch replaced free of charge. If you paid to have your ignition switch replaced, sorry, the deadline for reimbursement from GM was May 31, 2013.

Just received the recall notice on my '07. Will do the unloaded key ring suggestion.
But,,, avoiding any rough road driving isn't going to happen.
Roads/streets around here are rough as all get out.
Been on smoother surfaces off-roading in my Subaru's.

It was tough to convince the local dealer as the were not aware of the recall. You do have to ask for the loaner. If they were smart they would put you in a GM product. I'm now in a loaner Chrysler 200. I don't like it but my hhr has shut down 2x in rough conditions. Better safe than sorry.
