GM Recalling 2006-2008 HHR's
#191
It does seem that since the instruction says to put the glue in the pockets that it would have to be put on top of the original. It seems that the single piece maybe didn't provide the crush rate they needed and adding the second one on top would change that. But that is a guess and it would be interesting to see what GM says.

Okay, I just got mine done. Went down to Ray Dennison around 4:00 and was out at 4:22. I can't even tell what was done. They did a bang up job and got it done quick. I even told my dealer that I was ify on doing it, and he said they would just keep buggin till I did.

A new update came out on the dealer instructions. Step Number 6 changed from:
6) Insert the energy absorbing (EA) plastic piece to the headliner trim with hot glue.
To this:
6) Insert the energy absorbing (EA) plastic piece onto the existing plastic piece on the headliner with hot glue.
You can see the original full instructions on post #85
I think Leon is responsible for this change.

Could be why I got a funny look when I was at the dealer yesterday....
He said they're trying to find some of the original pieces that were removed and thrown out! I don't believe it is a stocked item, it is part of the headliner?

Now you guys have me wondering if they took my old piece out. The 2 together would be stronger than 1. By taking 1 out and putting another one in.....puts you back at square 1! Guess I will never know. One thing for sure is its on file that I had the recall done and if it wasnt done right, then I cant be held responsible but gm can. Better make a note of this.

One thing to consider is this recall is a safety item and if done wrong can cause YOU harm. It takes a couple minutes to lower a corner and check your headliner for two pieces instead of one.
I have my car going into the dealer in the morning for the shifter problem, and will check to see what they are doing about the headliner. Last I heard they are trying to locate some "original" pieces to be reinstalled under the recall pieces.
