Couldn't you just powder coat the spokes and tape off the lip of the rim? A pro powder shop should have the tape needed to do that. That would really look sweet!!!

damn...now i'm tempted to powdercoat my wheels black for my Camaro AND the SS! (already wanted to do the Camaros...those SS wheels in black look amazing!)

I am thinking of doing something unique with some wheels, but that is probably 6 months off. Gotta save up, not the cheapest thing in the world since it involves a new set of wheels, and some tricky powder coating. I think it would look amazing though. Not going to reveal my thoughts, don't want anyone to steal them! :)

Here's another 2¢...

Black wheels on red HHR have a "late 80's BBS look" that was on the Trans Am. Bleh.

Blacking out the stock wheels... meh. A little too UAV for my own tastes. Blacking them out except for the beveled area is worse. Looks too much like a "driveway mod."

Again, just my 2¢... collect and spend as you see fit.
