Strut Tower Brace not needed?

I was looking at the location of the top strut mounts, and it looks like you could sneak a cross-brace tube along the firewall to tie in with the typical style top plates. It occurred to me though that the mounts are so close to the firewall that it is probably already fairly stiff. It would be fairly lame to add the weight of a brace if it is really not doing much. Any thoughts on that?
