This fix is great, unfortunately - as you mentioned - this does not work on the other end of the arm (the one connected to the motor).

Looks like i will be buying the full assembly

Hi there, I have seen that many of you have replaced the wiper transmission on your HHR. My passenger side wiper arm failed as well. I just received a replacement transmission and it didn't come with the middle linkage connection to attach to the motor. Is this normal? How can I take apart the bushing and linkage from the old part? Is there another part I have to order?

Thanks for any assistance.

Yes take apart the center bushing, been a while since I did this, but if you remove the assembly from the car, it is not too hard to dissassemble, send me a pic if your still having trbl. ccheney65@msn.com

LinkX - thanks for posting. The description and pictures made an easy job of fixing mine (broke at the base of the drivers wiper). Total job was a bit over an hour, including scrounging thru my parts bins for suitable washers, bolt and a couple of nuts. I did not have a tap around, so just ran a bolt through the holes and packed lots of silicone grease into the ball and socket. Will see how long it lasts.

Many thanks.

I showed the broken parts to my British Car nut of a neighbour and he then sent me this:

Here’s a link to the wiper clip on E-Bay.UK. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2611389322...84.m1497.l2649
I decided to take your wiper problem as a warning and ordered a couple.
When they get here we can see if they fit your car too, after all you still have 2 left to break!

I literally just did this two days before I became a member and it works like a champ. Not about to spend $82 on an entire new wiper trans when this costs $1 for two washers and a bolt.

wiper end connector repair

I'm sure glad I saw this repair technique. My driver-side wiper went 'limp' while going 65 mph on the snowy highway yesterday. Sure enough, the little plastic end piece doesn't grab anymore.

In the process of drilling now and waiting for the drill battery to recharge.

I will probably buy three of those British clips once they let me know the nominal ball size it clips to.

Thanks for all the advice.

Here is what mine looked like this afternoon. I also (as someone else suggested) put some grease inside before assembling.

A tip about removing the wiper arms: Scratch an index mark on the end of the shaft, align the mark with the wiper arm body.

Just completed the project myself.. The info on here was invaluable. I spent total of less than $2.00 for the repair that would have been at least $250 at the shop.

with reguards to marking the arms, its not necessary. look for index marks in the blacked out portion of the windshield at the ends of the wiper when the wipers are parked. i assume these marks are there for assembly line workers.
