Here is a diagram of our setup from GM's website. The pic above looks to be a different GM cars setup. Note they are replacing the ignition switch along with the lock cylinder.

Sorry about that. I see the parts resemblance now. Yeah it doesn't seem like you should loose the program for the old keys.

Thanks Don,

Worked like a charm on the new spare key. Bumping the thread because I had to mate the new spare key with the 2011 HHR we recently purchased.

Same thing happened to me. I had the switch replaced due to the recall and they cut 2 new keys for me.

I haven't even thought to try my old spare.lol Guess I better since it's been in my purse as a back up. Would probably still open the doors anyway. :-)

They cut new keys because of the key ring hole, it is much smaller on your new keys, no diffence to the tumbler pattern, so yes your old key should still work it just won't be chip matched to your new ignition.

fallowed the instructions. I can start the car but if i remove the key from the ignition it wont restart.

My replacment keys do not have + on them maybe they dont have the chip
