My two 2007 HHR remotes wore out and would not work. I cleaned and bought some "paint" that is supposed to restore the conductive surfaces on the old rubber membrane .
Note, I cleaned the membranes with alcohol and then, "and very lightly and with much care", I used an eraser on the circuit board connectors.
Pic one...it did not stick! One button did work a few times. But it did not stick. The circuit paint cost delivered 8.95 usd.
Pic two...new UN-programed remote from Ebay.
Pic 3...The new membrane close up.
Pic 4...pic of the item on Ebay...cost 8.97 usd with delivery
Both remotes now lock and remote start the HHR!!!!
Lesion learned....check out all options as well as you can!!!!

The only negative thing I've ran across with the Ebay replacements is that the rubber you press seems to wear out faster than the stock membrane. Otherwise I've replaced the ones for the HHR and my Sierra with Ebay replacements. They work great.
Also make sure to check the battery holder. My HHR remote got dropped a lot and the solder broke loose. I had to re-solder it and it's been fine.
