Key Fob Suc[k] cess!

First time poster, first time HHR owner here...Glad to be apart of the forum!

Just bought a 2009 HHR LT from a Subaru dealer. They gave me new batteries in both key fobs and they still wouldn't work well. I can confirm the solder points for the battery holder is usually the problem. At the dealer, the buttons only worked 1/10 times, and even then we had to be standing in the perfect spot. I re-soldered both key fobs that night and voila!! Both fobs work like brand new from hundreds of feet away. Be careful soldering these though, I almost burnt the chip boards several times. All said, an easy fix that saved a ton of dough.

Welcome to the forum! Here is something most people do not know about key fobs. If you put the key fob up against you head and push the button.............wait for it...........
then the working range to your car from the FOB is about doubled.

I did not believe it either till I tried it, it works on all three cars. Comes in handy when the battery in the FOB is weak.
Don't know exactly why, but it works.

That is hilarious. I will make sure and try when no one else is looking.

It is because it uses all the empty space in your head to bounce it around and amplify the signal.

Most of the instructions say to hold the fob under your chin. I think it may have something to do with a parabolic reflector effect.

And I always thought it was the RF reflections off the aluminum foil hat that the holder was wearing.
