In reality, I grew up a Bruins fan right after the Original 6. I saw Orr and Espo, and did youth hockey, until I was 10. 3 years, in the 70s. Nonetheless, i grew up believing ANYONE BUT MONTREAL was the dream. The Richards, LaFleur, Shutt, and Chelios did little to dispel that. They always seemed to end the dream for the B's.
I was in attendance at Boston Garden when a major spell was broken. The Bruins beat Les Habs in the playoffs - for the first time since the 1942-43 season. The year was 1988, and for this Boston kid, it has only been topped once - by the '04 Red Sox. Beating the Canadiens was so important, and we couldn't seem to do it even when they had bad teams.
So, as a result, I am pretty neutral on the Leafs. I actually liked the '95 Leafs, with Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark, and Mats Sundin. Still think that was potential wasted. Pat Burns... no more said.
