so can u get at the pump thru the floor of the back or does the tank have to be dropped to do it?

Gotta drop the tank.
Fwiw. There isn't even a good place to put an access hole in the unibody.

There have been some fuel pumps go bad, most likely from running the tank dry, as the fuel is needed to cool the pump. It's a good idea to keep it above a quarter tank, I don't know the exact level though for optimal cooling of the pump.
