How to access power window switches

I have an '07 HHR and my power windows are intermittantly not working. Mostly not working but once in awhile if I play with the window lock switch and one of the power window switches I can get one of them to go down. Then I have the same problem getting it back up! It started in the middle of winter when I left my car at the airport for a few days. I came back to pay the parking attendant and the windows wouldn't work.

Anyway, I have heard some clicking like a shorted contact or wire so I want to access the power window switches and make sure the wiring is snug.

How can I access the power window switches in the center console?

TIA, Larry

well all you have to so is remove he center console and the switches are attached!

1.) Remove rubber insert which sits below switches, and press both slots with a butter knife to release both clips.
2.) Pull from both sides equally to release top clips.
3.) Remove Chrome Plastic ring which surrounds the Trans Shifter assembly. This should pull up fairly easily.
4.) Pull up on Outer bezel covering the ****er plate.
5.) Unplug harness going to Window Switches.

If you need a wiring schmetiac see below:

Sounds pretty straight forward, I'll give it a shot this evening. Thanks!

I have great news. I decided to go pull the shroud surrounding the power window switches (as per the excellent instructions above) and as I felt up underneath the switches I found the connector for the wires to the switches. It felt loose so I squeezed it upward toward the switches and -click-, it snapped firmly back on! I can now use my windows again! I now have the urge to drive through the 1st fast food place I find...

Thanks again NxlKing!

I'm having the same problem. I have a 2006 HHR and the power windows stopped working about a week ago. I replaced the 30A fuse in the passenger console floor fuse box, and at first I thought that fixed the problem because my windows seemed to work after that. But now I notice they're just working intermittently. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't...so I don't think the fuse had anything to do with it. I removed the plastic piece surrounding the switches in the center console and reached underneath and the wiring seems tight. Beyond this, is there any simple fix I can try? I am not a mechanic by any means, so if it involves replacing a wire or something, it's probably beyond my skill level. I'm trying to avoid paying hundreds of dollars to take this into a shop.
