Do I need to think about snow tires for SS
I live in MA and drive frequently to NH and VT in the winter and spring. I have not bought snow tires since radials were introduced - my string of Taurus's never got stuck except in very deep spring mud in VT; My SS which I bought in the spring has 225 45R18 Michlan Pilots which are getting close to min tread so I'm planning to replace this fall. I've driven the SS on slimey logging roads in VT (why is another story) and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't spin but I did plow some on turns.
A tire guy told me the new tires of the same type with the width and low profile would not be great in snow but adequate. The current tires seem awfully hard and not that great in rain to me. My guess is that with front wheel drive and traction control I'll be alright but I wonder what the experience of others has been with the ss in snow - especially on ski trips etc.

People will tell you stock is fine, I disagree. Maybe you can get where you're going most of the time with stock, but if you drive in snow a lot you'll welcome the comfort and control of some proper snows. I spend a lot of time at the slopes and have never had a problem with snows, can't say the same about stock.

So would I get some other wheels and a more narrow tire or is there something I can do with the current wide 18" wheels? The price of similarly rated replacements is more than I want to spend to begin with; the idea of having two full sets of tires and wheels is both a storage and a financial burden

IMO The Pilots are crap , Way to hard of a tire , They last , But so does steel. If you don't drive it like you stole it all the time, I liked the Eagle GT's That i went threw in under 2 years , The traction in snow and rain was great. I do wish they lasted longer .
