low profile rims

didn't realize when i got car it had low profile rims/tires. rides kind of bumpy to me. will standard rims be better or can i get a tire that rides better.

What's a low profile rim?

The 16's run a 55 series tire.
The 17's run a 50 series tire.
The 18's run a 45 series tire.

What do you have? You didn't notice this when you first saw it and test drove it?

didn't really notice it, thats what the wife wanted, now i have fell in love with the hhr. i think i meant low rider looking rims, looks like the ones on solman98 vehicle. the tires are firestone P215 50R17 90T M+S. when i drive my daughter car (cobalt), to me it rides smoother with her regular rims/tires. is it me....or just got to get used to it. could be my mississippi roads.

The wheels on solman's ride are off of a cobalt ss/sc not OEM wheels for our cars

Yea and they are 18's, if you hate the 50 series, you would not like the 40 series.

I have 18" with Foose wheels, and it has a good ride, but more rubber will ride better. Looks or ride ?

Good Morning SgtDon,

I had the same issue as you do currently. I felt like the Firestones rode too hard for me. I replaced them with 215/50R17 Kumho Solus KH16 tires. They are wonderful. They ride great, are quieter, and it has been reported that they handle our Southeast monsoons better than the Firestones. I would highly recommend them to you. I think it is always good to have first-person experience with a swap like this before you spend money. I don't know about other tires, but I know these Kumho Solus tires ride much better. I believe a set of 16" rims with the same Kumho tires might ride a tad better than the 17's, but cannot say for sure. Hope y'all are doing well down in the beautiful state of Mississippi. God Bless, Marc

The rims have no profile. The profile (or more correctly the aspect ratio) is in the tire sidewall. My 2006 has 215X50X17 tires and came with Firestones. The 50 in this size is the aspect ratio. The lower the number the lower the profile and the less sidewall.

It's a different car with BFG Traction T/A on it. Checking the tire pressure might be advisable. I have mine filled with Nitrogen. You would be amazed the difference in ride and overall quietness.

Yes, nitrogen is an inert gas. It does not expand with heat like common air from a gas station pump. Plus no water in it either. Good stuff. It's used in shock absorbers too.
