Radio and flasher sound is not working

Hello every one,

Finally I have my HHR. A dream come true for me. I have brought this car used, it's a 2006 LS. There is juste one thing... my radio is completely off (even the clock is not appearing) and my flasher are completely silent. I had some few flashes of hope when i saw the clock comming on the screen but it disapeared in the second so...

I don't know if any one of you had that issue or know how i can manage it. I have checked the fuse and everything was fine, I open the dash and checked the wires on the back of the radio and everything was plugged properly...

I need some help here plz.

Thanks for your time,

Jobouche!

I have a 2006 hhr and for the last 4 months, most of the radio functions and the radio itself don't function.

Sometimes the usually loud turn signal sound is sometimes silent.

The radio will not always turn on or delays noticeably. When on the buttons do not work. Volume control does not always work. The radio won't shut off sometimes. The manual station changer knob works.

As it is off warranty I do not care to see a dealer about the problems.

But someone said the car's computer is reset through the radio buttons. It makes me fear that more serious electronics will be failing in the future.

Love the HHR but it is starting to cause concerns at 160,000 k.

I'd like to know if there has been a bulletin fix for the radio too.

You might try and unplug the radio then plug it back in like a reboot for the pc. It sounds like its time to replace the radio. ebay seems to have them now and then.

Yeah Lucky, it sounds like in both their cases they are dealing with failing/failed head units. They do show up on e-bay for reasonable prices, not sure what the dealers charge to configure them to match the vehicle, but it can't be a ridiculous amount.

Thanks for the pointers. Ebay has the radios from $40 used to $225 6 cd changer.

I think I might look into an aftermarket system if it get much worse.

Thanks again

My 2007 HHR LS used to lose audio quality and chimes/turn signal clicks at random. I noticed that it often happened when I shut the engine off with a CD playing. The remedy was to shut off the radio, then shut off the engine and re-start. Normal sounds were restored.
I made it a habit to always shut off the radio before shutting the engine off, and it never happened again. However - the CD player failed entirely not long after those malfunction episodes were noticed. Which means, my "remedy" was probably bogus and it was the head unit going bad all the while.

well, we are pretty far from my problem. I noticed also that I'm loosing power steering sometimes, i have to turn off the car and turn it back on, and then everything works for a minute or two and then radio and flasher sound going off again....

Any possible way that a relay can be in cause?

Those two problems would not be related..... The power steering issue is likely the PS motor going out ( a weak link GM won't do a recall for except in Canada, You may be in luck there!) The chimes/clock/flasher sounds is likely a radio head unit failure or bad wiring/connectors.

I would check my local salvage yard. I found a nice 2007 that I am getting replacement parts from. They go quick so hurry don't be late.
