Battery location

As a new HHR owner, (just purchased my 2007 Red HHR last Saturday) I found the battery this morning and was wondering if anyone has had any difficulty removing the battery? Assuming, of course, that all HHRs batteries are located in the spare tire section of the trunk space.

What do you mean by trouble removing the battery? It is really simple to get to and remove. ;)

It is sort of a PITA to remove the carpet, then the tray, then unscrew the tire thingy, lift that out, remove plastic gate piece and then remove the 4 or 5 bolts holding the battery in place.

Once you think about it, you miss just popping the hood and undoing the 2 cables...

What?

I could see how that was confusing...

The battery location for the HHR is in the back of the car, in the spare tire compartment. All the cars I've ever had to deal with they were under the hood. I wish they would have done this for the HHR, mainly because I've had to replace the battery once, and take it out a few times for testing. After you have to take out your battery 5-6 times within 2 weeks, it sort of gets annoying.

There... Is that a better explanation?

Try taking the battery out of a Buick Rendezvous. It's under the hood but you have to be a magician to get it out! Lots of stuff in the way. Look at the bright side, you've likely got 5 or 6 years before it is becomes an issue :-)

Yea.. Hopefully I have a while before I have to mess with it again. :D

I used to have a friend who had a Rendezvous, but I never got to look under the hood.

Try one of the 90's Dodge (or their counterparts) cab forward cars (Stratus, Concord, etc). Those are in the fenders.....

betterof2evils4....

What vehicle did you have before the HHR?? ALMOST all vehicles that have a battery under the hood are a nightmare to take out also........

I believe the "forward" thought by the manufacturers is to place the battery in the trunk, to provide projected longevity (as well as weight distribution). It somewhat isolates the battery from heat. It works for me, here in AZ. I have a 2002 Aurora with the original battery still in use (under rear seat). On a custom vehicle I moved the battery to the rear and that battery is still the in use after 7 years.

I guess the point is......if you start with a good battery ;) you shouldn't need to replace it for quite a while. In my book, that's worth the "inconvenience".
