removing automatic gear shifter
 
hey everyone, i have two 2009 chevy hhrs one has a leather shifter knob on it and my other hhr has a plastic one how do you remove the shifter knob. it has a leather shifter boot please help :thumb:

i found that post ive been on here most of the day looking . i have the2009 which has the boot if you push the boot down theres a plastic spacer but set screw anyone know how to remove this shifter(automatic) thanks

Forgot the 09 was different. There have been a couple guys that put the 09 unit in their older HHRs. Bet they know how to switch the knob but not many posting today being a holiday and those with families aren't worried about the forum right now. Bet one of them will post in a day or so.
With luck Brad (ChevyMgr) will post a pic on "how to" since he has all that info at dealership

I know on my 08, you have to pry the chrome sleave downwards to get to the set screw. I dont know if it is the same for the 09 though.

09 shifter
 
I just did mine today I have an 07 panel and put on 09 leather boot on The 09 has a black plastic ring under the knob just give the black ring a 1/2 turn and it will drop then you can see the allen screw that has to be turned out almost all the way. I didn't like the chrome on the 09 knob so I put the knob from the 07 back on the new shifter. I am going to change the complete shifter assembly in the spring when the weather warms up because I don't have a heated garage.
