How do you remove the chrome rings around the air vents?

I want to paint these flat black, because I hate chrome for medical reasons. (don't ask) There doesn't seem to be an obvious way, and I don't want to snap/bend/damage anything. Anyone know?

You have to remove the accessory trim plate to reach the three screws that hold the vent. Use a plastic trim tool to pry the plate off. As far as i know the chrome ring is part of the vent assembly.

I think you can access the three screws that hold the right vent by using a plastic trim tool to pry the end cap off the side of the dash.

follow this guide to get the panel off (also called the waterfall elsewhere on these forums), and there are three screws on each vent. IIRC there are loosly fitting tab-in-slot type things on the edges that hold the chrome ring in place, 3 of them i believe. as for the vents out near the doors, not a clue how to get those out of the dash...from underneath the dash somehow i'd imagine
