I rarely drive my 2009 hhr. I went to use it today after sitting 2 months. The battery was low, car wouldn't start. I jumped it, started fine. Not sure why the battery was so low, it's less than 5 months old & 812 mi. Now the yellow security lock is on, the one all the way to the left, and won't go out. The manual is no help. No idea why the battery was so low, no lights left on, nor doors ajar etc. Any ideas how to turn the light off ? Thanks, Steve.

If the vehicle sits for months, the battery discharges. Then you take it out for a drive, probably not enough to bring it back up to full charge. Rinse, repeat, the battery eventually is too discharged to start the vehicle. A jump start does not charge the battery.

Now having said all that, with your battery only being 5 months old, it should not be dead. It may be defective. Your local auto parts store will probably check it(and your entire charging system) for free.

You should also buy a battery maintainer. BatteryTender and BatteryMinder are good choices. Charging the battery may get that security light to turn off.

I just went to check the battery, I had a charger on it for a few hours. Light is out, starts fine. I can't figure out why the battery was so low after 2 months sitting in the garage. I put a load tester on the battery & it shows fine, Mystery.....................Thanks, Steve.

It should go out the second time you start it after a dead battery event.

When the battery goes below a certain threshold the car goes into anti-theft mode; the key is locked in the ignition and the doors lock and the theft light goes on.
