Check Engine Light on - P1682 code
The check engine light on my 2007 Chevrolet HHR (with the 2.4L engine) came on, so I took it to Autozone and it had a P1682 code. They didn't really seem to know too much about this code. The check engine light went off the next day, and it hasn't come back on since. I don't know if this makes a difference, but: Within the past two weeks, I've had to jumpstart it twice. But when I jumpstarted it, I always connected the jumper cables directly to the battery in the trunk, I haven't used the remote jump-starting thing under the hood. Does anyone know what might be wrong? What might need to be replaced? Has anyone ever had this code show up?

My check engine light went off on its own about a day after it came on. I haven't noticed anything wrong with the car. And I've never had any trouble with the ignition switch, so I'm not even sure why it came on in the first place. I'm not really too worried about it anymore, I just hope I don't have a horror story like the guy on that Trailblazer forum. I called the dealership and asked them if they could diagnose the problem so I know exactly what I need to do, and they said it would cost $110. I told them I'd call them if I decide to do that, and I haven't called them yet and I don't plan to. From what I understand, although the problem is with the ignition switch, it could be a more complicated fix than just replacing the ignition switch. I called a couple local shops, and they said that there could be a couple of different routes to fixing it, so replacing the ignition switch isn't exactly the answer.

But if the check engine light went off, doesn't that mean the problem isn't persisting? If it was still a problem, wouldn't the light stay on? The check engine light only was on for a day, and its been off for over a week? I honestly don't know what to think; I hardly know anything about cars. Knowing the circumstances, what do you think?
