Chirping/Squealing noise when A/C is on

I am not sure if this is anything to be concerned about but it was not happening before but it seems recently when I have the A/C on and I first hit the gas from being at a stop or really low speed my car lets out a little chirp or squeal. Not sure if is a belt or if it means there may be a air leak or something. The noise does not happen if the A/C is off.

I am just curious if anyone knows what could cause that and if it is an issue I should be concerned about. My 2008 HHR SS is still under and extended warranty so whatever it is should be covered.

May be a pully. With the added load with the ac compressor on it may be putting added strain on a weak pully.

Sounds like the belt slipping. If it only happens with the AC on, then I would look at replacing the belt.
Fwiw. Wear and tear items like brakes, tires, wiper blades, belts etc. are usually NOT covered by any warranty.

Yeah I thought the belt too. I am having my brakes done in the near future by my mechanic (AKA my Step Father) so I will have him check that. It didn't sound like a typical belt squeal though so I thought maybe it could be something else. I guess with the excessive heat we have had something was bound to wear out or break.

Bob, mine makes a similar noise but only in hot weather. It's been doing it since last summer, and hasn't gotten any worse. The noise is not very loud, just a slight belt chirp.

I have the chirp too, haven't figured where it's coming from yet.

Same thing hear also.
If you change the belt be sure to rent a tool for changing it there is almost no room between the engine and fender.
Thinking of ordering a gatorback belt
