Clunk in the steering.

Here I sit at the local Chevy dealership to get the column replaced. In the last week I had the Intermediate shaft replaced. Hopefully this makes the clunk go away.

About a month ago, while I stayed in the windowless TV waiting room,
mine was (supposedly) replaced, but it still sounds just the same to me.
It still clunks just as badly!!!
So, I am now wondering if something else is in danger of falling off of my HHR????

clunk

I have the same problem with my 2006.I have taken it in to dealer three times and they tell me they can find no problem.I even gave them a bulletin on the problem from GM that says to replace the center shaft or struts no question asked. They say they will not fix it unless they can hear it.It is time to go to another dealer

I had the int. shaft replaced twice while under warranty. Clunk is back, and was told to replace shaft with one from NAPA instead of GM for perm. fix. It seems GM knows it's a bad piece but they have thousands of them to use up. I'm just say'en....

definetly a bad peice in more than just the HHR . The 2006 Malibu I traded in had that steering clunk for over a year... They replaced it once under warranty along with about everything else under the front. Hopefully my new HHR will be better but im not getting excited about it.

Angry front passenger clunking noise

I have a 2007 HHR that makes a clunking noise whenever I go over any kind of bump. I've had the struts replaced. Same problem. My mechanic says it may be the sway bar. Got any clue? I have an extended warranty that is about to expire at 100,000 miles.

Sway bar end links have been known to cause clunks/rattles. And they are inexpensive so worth a shot.

The sway bar bushings are know to cause this as well as the end links mentioned above.
