Another Ignition Switch Bad 5 Speed
Well, put me down for an ignition switch this weekend on my SS. I read on another thread it is not a bad DIY. Anybody have any tips??
Not complaining but in 17000 miles I have replaced the power steering (covered), battery (dealer denied any problem, not covered), now ignition switch (out of warranty).
Funny enough, I replaced 2 ignition switches on my 97 S-10 before selling it.
Thanks guys for any tips.

crickets...
This was as easy as pie. I thought I needed to drill that thing out or something. I removed the 3 screws under the column and removed the the two piece plastic. I was able to slide the plastic off with key still in. There is a little hole on top of the key cylinder. I took a bent wire coat hanger and inserted it into that hole. At the same time I pulled on the key and the whole cylinder/tumbler came out. There is a fella on eBay that has these cylinders for $35.00. He will also key it for you if you get your key code from the dealer.
