Coolant

I have had an issue with my check engine light coming on because my coolant was low. I refilled my coolant and all was well.

Now however, my check engine light has come on, and the coolant level are reading ---. My car is over 100,000 miles. Could it be the fan/internal thermostat that is not working? And is there a Chevy dealership near the downtown Pittsburgh area where I could get this problem checked?

Do you mean the temperature is reading ---? May be the t-stat. Need a lot more info, like what was the temp reading, what was the code from the check engine light, was the engine "missing" and shifting hard, how low was the coolant, how long did it take to get that low, year, model, mileage.
This is kind of an odd place to be asking about locations of Chevy dealers. Wouldn't be easier to just Google? Or, watch TV for 10 minutes around a holiday (President's Day today). I am absolutely positive that there is a Chevy dealer near downtown Pittsburgh, but since I live 500 miles away I could not tell you where. I seem to remember the last time I drove through Pittsburgh that I saw some billboards advertising a Chevy dealer.

Without the code generated by the Check Engine Light ............... anything would be a guess. The thermostat is a great guess by Donbrew and is most likely spot on (the tip-off being the ---- being displayed).

Now if you are going to ask... but why would the thermostat cause that?............... use the SEARCH tool at the top of the page and look for P0128. It's a common issue, and there is a ton of discussions on it already.

sounds like T-stat issue, don't go cheap replace it with GM part, many have spent money on other brands and had good luck for awhile, but I just don't gamble when the ECM is so finicky!!
