Driver Inside Door Handle Broke

Has anyone ran into the inside Door Handle breaking off?

My 2006 HHR driver door handle came off in my hand.

It is plastic.

The fix, a whole new Door Panel.

$250 for a 50cent piece of plastic that broke.

Anyway, I found a used one at a junkyard (Bought the running boards and leather seats also)

How do you get the door panel off? Anybody done this and have pictures?

Thanks Newbie

I have taken the door panels off to install speakers. It is not hard to do. If i remember correctly there are a couple of screws to remove and then all you have to do is pry the door panel off.

Thanks,

Haven't picked the other one up, but since it is about 120 miles and I will be staying over that way and working over there thought I would do it one evening.

My drivers side door handle also broke off. My dealer quoted me $450.00 to replace. They said that was the cost of the part only.

I called Chevrolet. They said they could not help me because the dealer had already done gratis service for me????? Because the thermostat was faulty & something else that took them a week to fix(which I had to be without a car for)!!!!!!

I am looking to buy a junk door. My hubby can replace the handle & assembly if I can find the part.

BRRRRRR. It's getting too cold out to have to roll the window down to open the door!
Beside that, I had a stroke in 1995 which damaged my left arm & it is really difficult for me to open the door from the outside.

Please HELP!~!~!~!

Sincerely, sharonjohn1234@yahoo.com

P.S. WHO in their right mind would manufacture & sell a car that you had to pay $450.00 for a plastic door handle?????

The more I think about this, the more upset at GM I get. This is plain just not right. GM needs to take notice. Next time I can buy a Ford or Chrysler just as easily as I can buy a GM. I am a GM person, but this is just not RIGHT. It is going to get harder to find these door handles as more of them break.

Did you mention this when you spoke to someone at the GM customer line?

If not, I would call them back, ask to speak to a supervisor, and let them know. And specifically ask them to fix it as a goodwill gesture.

No guarantee, but it couldn't hurt to ask...

Might try this guy. Looks lik ehe only lists RH (front and rear) but email him and ask about driver's side. Seems to have good feedback.
