Without more info about all that can be said is "cause something is broken". More info like lawdog states would really help in pinpointing the problem for you.

How many miles on the car?
Has the auto trans ever been serviced?
Does the auto shifter move if it's an automatic?
Does the shifter move if it's a manual?
Does the clutch petal go the floor and return if it's a manual?
Do you have clutch/brake fluid if it's a manual?

That was almost going to be my response - and I even actually checked to make sure April Fools day hadn't snuck up on me.

Come on people, we want to help - we really do - but you have to at least make an effort to supply some helpful information if you sincerely are looking for assistance.

Maybe your right arm is broken. I'd call 911.

Automatic there could be special warranty for that!

Standard could be the shifter linkage has bent or the rod guides are destroyed!
