HHR Key stuck in the ignition

I have a 2006 HHR and the key is stuck in the ignition. From what I read on other threads it is the shifter linkage. I have found some on E-bay to replace it and I was just wondering if one from a 2011 will fit it?

Thanks,
Don

I had the same problem. Button under the steering column wouldnt release the key. They replaced the ignition under warranty. No problems since.

I think the 06's are excluded from this "recall".

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

to the forum Don!

It wasn't a recall exactly, but a Customer Satisfaction Campaign on GM's part. I believe that the '06 model year HHRs were excluded, but GM seems to still be handling this on a case by case basis for non-covered vehicles.

Talk to your dealer's Service Manager about a "Goodwill" repair.

Here's the thread on the Campaign letter....

People seem to say a 2011 shifter with the boot will fit.

Thanks, I have found out it is the shifter. I took it apart last night and the pin had slid out. I put it back in until I can get one ordered and it is working fine for now. Looks like a pretty easy fix.

If I remember correctly there is a TSB on the 2006 model, with pics. Maybe it was just another thread, try the SEARCH. I am pretty sure that somewhere on here I've seen reference to a design change after 2006, and I know I've seen pics.
