when we took it to autozone they checked code and said which one is it but cant find info on how to change it?

Could you post the code number? Just want to make sure that you are addressing the correct problem.
Also. Are there any other codes showing up?

For around 150 you may be able to have a fuel system clean/flush. Did wonders for my car at 75k.

There could be other causes for a specific cylinder misfire besides a coil or sparkplug. Never had this problem on our HHR but on other vehicles I've been involved with, I've seen where an internal problem in the cylinder, i. e. a sticking valve has caused it on my daughers Lincoln LS. I have also had a fuel injector cause this. I've seen that code set by vacuum leak(s), low or weak fuel pressure, improperly functioning EGR system, a bad mass air flow sensor, a defective crankshaft or camshaft sensor, a bad throttle position sensor, and even mechanical things like low compression, leaking head gasket...there are numerous things that need to be checked especially at 226K miles.

we have been having the code for awhile usually it occurs if the car is idiling at a light first the tc ight comes on then the service engine. probably since around 100k miles. however last week the tc light comes on every time we stop the car. autozone and a mechanic both said try changing the fuel injector. the reason for concern is when the tc light comes on the car starts to shift funny and contines until the tc light goes out. which means turning off car and letting it sit for a couple of minutes then it will go out.

and reading the forum others who had problem with cylinder 1 and 3 said it went away after changing the injectors

I would check the compression on that cylinder versus the others before throwing an injector at it.

compression was checked when they did the injector cleaning which was done by a chevy dealer. they said if it continued to code next step would be to change injector.
