Loud chimes

When I open the door on my HHR with the keys in the ignition the warning is 10 times louder than my other HHR both; '09s. It is so loud it is annoying. Any solution available?

From past experience, a faster than normal flash usually indicated the turn signal capacitor was going bad. I know a bad bulb will generate a faster than normal flash rate, but a bad bulb does not self-repair.

I do believe the 4-way flasher would have its own capacitor, but I can't believe there would be two separate capacitors for the turn signals. I'm not even certain the HHR uses capacitors to generate the turn signal flashes.

If anyone has experienced the same issue and has diagnosed the cause, or has any suggestions what might be the cause, please let me know.

Thanks

Boydie. There is a chime volume adjustment through the stereo. Look in the owners manual for the "how to" on the settings.

Edit: It's a little hard to find, so here you go.

Chime Level Adjustment
The radio may be used to adjust the vehicle’s chime
level. If the radio can be used to change the volume
level of the chime, press and hold the sixth numbered
pushbutton or the sixth FAV pushbutton with the ignition
on and the radio power off. The volume level changes
between Normal and Loud. The selected volume
level appears on the radio display.
Removing the radio and not replacing it with a factory
radio or chime module will disable vehicle chimes.

Here is some more info on chime volume. This tsb states that the volume adjustment feature was lost in early 09 because they changed suppliers.

#PIC4733C: Chime Volume Adjustment (US8/US9 Radio) - keywords int intermittent level loud normal preset radio soft three - (Dec 23, 2008)

Subject: Chime Volume Adjustment (US8/US9 radio)

Models: 2006-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

2006-2009 Chevrolet HHR

2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu (New body style)

2007-2009 Pontiac G5

2006-2009 Pontiac Solstice

2007-2009 Saturn Aura

2007-2009 Saturn Sky
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
A customer might comment that the audible chimes (headlight, door, key) are too loud and they wish to have the chime volume lowered. Currently there is no procedure in SI-2000 to adjust the volume of the Chime.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Important: There was a radio supplier change at the beginning of the 2009 model year FOR ALL VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE, and we lost the ability to adjust the chime volume.

Here are the programs that have the chime volume adjustment feature:

Years and Models* Radio

2006 to 2008 Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac G5* (US8 and US9)

2006 to 2008 HHR* (US8 and US9)

2009 forward HHR* (UUI)

2008 Malibu* (US8 and US9)

2009 forward Malibu* (US9 and UUI)

2007 and 2008 Aura* (US8 and US9)

2009 forward Aura* (US9 and UUI)

2006 to 2008 Solstice* (US8 and US9)

2009 forward Solstice* (US9 and UUI)

2007 and 2008 Saturn Sky* (US8 and US9)

2009 forward Saturn Sky* (US9 and UUI)

Chime Level Adjustment:
The radio is used to adjust the vehicle's chime level. To change the volume level of the chime, press and hold push-button 6 with the ignition on and the radio power off.

The volume level will change from the normal level to loud, and LOUD will appear on the radio display. To change back to the default or normal setting, press and hold push-button 6 again. The volume level will change from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will appear on the radio display.

Notice: Each time the chime volume is changed, three chimes will sound to indicate the new volume selected.

Here are the programs that do NOT have the chime volume adjustment feature.

Years and Models* Radio RPO's

2009 forward Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac G5* (US8 and UUI)

2009 forward HHR* (US8 )

2009 forward Malibu* (US8 )

2009 forward Aura* (US8 )

2009 forward Solstice* (US8 )

2009 forward Saturn SKY8 (US8 )

Since I posted in wrong area, and it was put in the correct area, I never saw the post. I only go to "General" listings. My fault!

Oh man, if you only go to the General Section, you are missing out on a whole lot. Give this a try: in the upper right hover your mouse pointer over your signed in name, and select NEW POSTS from the drop-down list. It's surprising the stuff you will find.

Or, you can also select MY POSTS to bring up a list of your recent posts - VERY handy.

Thanks Whopper, I have had computers since 1988 but was never very proficient at using them. Just not my line like painting cars, body work, and building homes, etc. I am one of those guys you have heard about; the one who can't work a VCR or get one of these new TVs to work properly.

I have never even went to the SS section of this Forum but I do love my HHRs.

And I do love Rock and Roll (60s, 70s, 80s) Led Zeppelin, The who, The Guess Who, AC-DC, Kansas, Rolling Stones, Animals, Kinks, etc but I absolutely hate Rap. I can tolerate Christian Rap (somewhat)

Boydie
That's my story and I am sticking to it.

So Boydie. What's the answer ?

Did you try to adjust the chime volume as I suggested ? Or is the info we gave out just a waste of forum space.
