ok ? is have you replaced your lower control arms and if yes how many miles was on them. I have a 2010 with 75,000 and was told i need brushing r/r will cost me 480.00 at the dealer?

Well I don't think there's a set mileage for them to go bad, I've got mileages on my HHR's ranging from 62,000 miles to 314,000 miles, and I've never replaced a control arm.

Thanks for putting it in the right spot for me and yes I will do the work my self . I just think at 75,000 it a bit early for repair. Also think the dealer is handling it all wrong. I had the car in for the steering recall and they left a message on my phone that it needed it done. I missed the call went and pick it up did not tell me/ask me about the repair and it was not on any paper work i was given. 3 days later I heared the message and that how i found out. You would think they would have said some thing when i pick the car up. The other thing that makes me go Mmm is the car was in the same dealer 90 days ago because it was in a front end wreck and the car needed a new front rub , frontend alliment and the steering motor work on all because of the wreck . I went by today to play 20 ? with them and they said they would have to get back to me about it. I would think if the brushing was bad this past week then they would have been a problem 90 days ago? only put about 3,000 miles on the car in the last 90 days.

I had to replace mine on my 08 at about 68000. My 07 with 50000 still looks good. Here what my old bushing looked like when I replaced them.

the salt and weather here in Ohio don't help things.

Its all relative to the road conditions , weather, driving style and age of the rubber bushing, 75,000 miles would be within the time to replace the bushing or the LCA (much easier). as for the 90 days and the crash repairs, well time to get a new dealer !

I had to replace mine, along with struts at 60k. These items are a weak point with these cars. Just do a search on bushings or struts. Fortunately replacing the arms is as easy as replacing rotors. One thing I would add to the tutorial is to use an air impact wrench on the large bolt that goes into the "frame" rail. Its a really long bolt and you'll save your arm with air tools.
