Mass air flow sensor
Hello all and nice to meet everyone, first timer to post to this forum as I may need advice/ help. I took my hhr(love her to death ) to get It diagnosed and the tech saw air filter dirty and the mass air flow sensor was clogged( highly doubt it) and was looking at 350$ worth of repair to replace. Now I want to do this to save a little extra money so I had once changed a mass air flow sensor to a 96 jimmy, so is the steps the same? Unplug batter negative, take out connectors, swap/clean, connect terminals and connect battery again and start? Please help any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Welcome to the site replacing the mass air flow sensor is about the same as the jimmy but it just bolts to the side of the air box. for what why are you replacing it? Are you getting a check engine light? Here is a thread on replacing the air filter.

Before condemning the MAF, you could pick up some "MAF sensor cleaner"(never use carb or brake cleaner), and try cleaning it.
Reinstall it, clear any codes by disconnecting the NEGATIVE battery cable for about 30 minutes and see how it runs.
One important thing, never touch the sensor element your fingers, that'll kill it faster than fast.
P.S. to the forum!

Thanks all again, we'll I've been having bad gas mileage when I do accelerate I feel some shake I was thinking maybe gasket is shot maybe cylinder heads, I do see a lot of fluctuations when it's idling, so I took it to the dealer and he suggested to get replace I know you don't have replace them pretty they just need to be cleaned but since they want money the dealer recommended to get it swapped.

No kidding right? Lol, I was surprised that they didn't mention that but this service advisor, she quoted me a price to get tran fluid flushed, coolant flush and too service the throttle body for 300$.... then I had told her that I payed the diagnostic fee no later than 6 months ago and I'm still having these issues, she said to bring it in and there will be no charged to get it diagnosed again, so when I got the bill and right before I was about to pay I saw the bill and was 450$ and I'm looking at the statement and I was charged for the diagnostic. ... so I went to her and she's trying to delay the issue and was like " oh I gotta go to another computer to get this fixed because I don't have access here"... ha!
