My service airbag light comes on

I believe about all you can do is check the connections under the front seats for being loose etc., otherwise take it to your GM dealer. You do not want to mess with the airbag system.
If you use the SEARCH function near the top of the page and put in SERVICE AIRBAG, you will find a number of references to other members similar problems - and some have solutions on how they resolved their issues, such as: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...service+airbag

As whopper said, it is quite often the connections. They seem to sometimes wiggle themselves loose. This has happened to me, it was the one that was actually behind the steering wheel airbag module. Also, even if you can't spot a connection that has come loose, it has helped some members here to simply unclip and clip the connections a few times.

Good luck getting a Safety Inspection with a warning light on. If the light is on there is potential for DEATH, this is not a "laugh it off" problem. BTW, the Dealer will probably farm the work out to an Airbag Specialist company, go to a body shop and ask who they use for insurance work. Also, you might be covered under some safety equipment warranty.

Service Air Bag Light
I had the same problem with my '09 HHR. It was recurring, sometimes weeks or even months before it happened again and the "service air bag light" and chime would come on. I took the car to the Chevy dealer 4 times and they fiddled with the connections under the passenger seat each time. It seemed to work for a while, then back to the same thing. Finally on my 5th. service visit, the dealership finally took the passenger seat out and replaced the air bag sensor itself, which the dealer said was in the passenger seat. After five tries, it appears to have fixed the problem. Just for your information, I was talking to a neighbor who had the exact same problem with a Hyundai - the front passenger seat air bag (weight) sensor was faulty. I would be willing to bet that a number of manufacturers, including GM apparently, use the same foreign made poor quality sensors. Anyway, I haven't had the problem reoccur, so hopefully this will be the end of it. A very frustrating experience. I wish they had just done the job right the first time I took it in for repair.
