Need to replace engine on a 2008 with a 2.2L 8th digit D

Looking around for a used engine for my 2008 HHR 2.2L with 8th vin digit D. Those specific engines seem to be quite a bit more than other GM 2.2 liter engines. Is there substitute I can make if I change the intake, fuel rails, exhaust manifold ect. My HHR has 200,000 miles and I need to find a low cost option or sell the hulk as it is. Any suggestions?

Call your local salvage yard. If they don't have one they can find one, many will do the install. Plan on around $800 for a used engine and $1200 labor.

The junkyards have a database that will answer all of the fitment questions.

I've got a "D" on my vin, anyone know what makes those engines more expensive?

I was gonna say VVT, but that started in 2009. However the 2007-2008 engines are peculiar to those 2 years, so limited quantities is probably why.

I'm not sure either , that's why I suggest you double check you RPO codes, their in the glove box

I did find this , looks like it's the AIR system
