I'd double check that, even go so far as shampoo the engine replace the Oil Pressure sender and drive it for a week just to confirm the rear main seal is the culprit.
GM parts Direct shows GM PART # 12635992 about $10.00 , much less than $500.00 for the rear main and you might still have a leak! but that's just me.

X2 Oldblue.
Many folks will condemn a rear main only to find out that wasn't the leak after having the work done.
I would double check the leak after a thorough clean up/degrease.

Thanks to my friends here on the forum I did ask them to inspect the oil pressure sending unit but they found it to be in fine condition. I trust my repair shop...they specialize in drivetrain service and they've correctly diagnosed other problems that "Leading Car Repair Guy" wildly mis-diagnosed. I wish it was a cheaper fix but sometimes you can't dodge every bullet.

I have the same issue

Mine is a 07 2LT with the 2.4 5-Speed Manual. It is leaking oil in the same area. I have had it checked out and told it is the rear main seal as well.

the shop wants $568.00 to do the repair and is suggesting I replaced the clutch at the same time... another $320.00 just for the Clutch?!?!?!

A leaking rear main seal on a 5-speed almost always means a clutch replacement as well, if the clutch friction material gets oil soaked, clutch failure is guaranteed to follow shortly thereafter.

So it's actually more economical to do the clutch now, rather than later.

Agree with Mike. In fact, in a recent Q&A auto repair column (commonly called the, "Click and Clack Brothers") this very question was asked. The answer was, any GOOD shop would also recommend and do the clutch work when doing a rear main seal. And for the same reason as Mike expressed........the "leakage" problem and less TOTAL labor.

However, the cost of the actual clutch and related material is questionable due to the manufacturer/supplier of the clutch and related material.

Might as well replace the clutch, they have to to R&R it to get to the seal. It is possible they are including a new flywheel in the estimate.
