Only Starts When engine is cold...
Hi All,
I am hoping someone has seen this before. Have an 06 HHR and the engine starts most of the time, but sometimes when the engine is warm it will turn over but not start. If you leave the vehicle for 10-30 minutes and try again the engine will start. My first thought is fuel pump as it seems to not be pumping fuel, but after doing some web searches I noticed that others have had this and replaced the pump and it did not fix it. Is there a relay that could be over heating? Has anyone had this problem and figured out the fix?
Thanks. Don.

I had similar symptoms on my old saturn and it turned out to be the starter. Wouldn't start after driving, but would fire right up after sitting 30min+....however, it wouldn't crank either when it did this, just clicked. Is your's cranking/turning over and not starting?

One thing to try as well if you don't have a scanner or Aeroforce gauge handy is to turn the key to the ACC position BEFORE starting the car. You can hear the fuel pump priming itself before startup (NOTE: you can hear it better if you're in a garage or have the windows open if you're outdoors). If you don't hear the high-pitched whine of the fuel pump, or if it sounds "broken or scratchy" in nature it's an easy indicator that you've got fuel pump issues. Hope that helps you!

I'm probably the last person to get car tips from.
But I have an '05 Chev that has had trouble starting only when warm since about 35K, now at 120K and this works on it. I have never had to wait I can get it started.
When warm turn the key just enough to get the gauges to move up and hold it a couple seconds before turning it over. - That always works if I remember to do it.
The other thing is if it doesn't start, hold the peddle down a little while cranking it over.
I think it's definately a fuel issue, but don't know why this works.
